Africa Development Promise currently supports three agricultural cooperatives in Uganda that produce a variety of crops —from indoor mushroom farming to outdoor farming of soy beans, cassava, sweet potatoes and maize. In 2019, Africa Development Promise, in collaboration with University of Colorado’s IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT), will launch a data-enabled or climate smart agricultural initiative. The goal of the initiative is to increase farm productivity and crop yield by implementing locally appropriate improved technologies. This includes submersible solar water pumps and irrigation (drip and atomized) enabled by a monitoring and control system that can regulate water supply during the dry season or climate change related wet season. The project also aims to reduce post-harvest loss by building a storage and processing facility.
